Plan to join us at the Native Pecan Harvest Field Day on October 12, 2023.
The location is in Okfuskee County at Leon Bailey's Pecan Farm, 363112 E. 960 Rd, Paden, OK.
Check-in will begin at 2:30 pm; the Program at 3 pm.
I’ll send out a follow-up email to registrants with additional directions.
The focus of the native pecan field day will be on taking a wild pecan-forested area to a productive pecan grove and explaining the steps involved.
Assessing forested areas, tree marking, tree selection, equipment needed, native pecan inputs, flooding potential & drainage, are a few of the grove development topics. We will look at different tree densities, talk about spacing, and explain how that affects overall production in the orchard.
Other topics will include wildlife depredation and prolonged drought stress effects.
We will request 1 CEU for those needing one more for renewals. Topics will include weevil trapping & control, scab overview, and grazing/haying labels.
Bring your lawn chair to get comfortable and enjoy a nice Fall afternoon!
And, if the weather turns off wet, we will have an alternate site and will email you with any changes.
There is no charge to attend, but registration is needed to be able to plan for dinner.
Be sure to register by Oct 10 at https://okstatecasnr.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2abRaNZmyiNKB3o .
